Wow, it's an amazing feeling when you use to be really amazing at something; and when you attempt to do it, you just can't anymore. I sat down, with my mother. We were going to figure out who could solve it first (it being an algebra problem my 12 year old sister was assigned as a "get out of homework for the year" problem.) My being the top of my classes and having taken a lot of advanced algebra in high school to get out of electives (as well as in college.) She, having degrees in advanced mathematics.

I.E. "8F + 2G = $932" and "14F +3G = $1402"

We couldn't get it...

"Eight pounds of feathers and two ounces of gold together cost $932. Fourteen pounds of feathers and three ounces of cold together cost $1402. What is the cost of five pounds of feathers and five ounces of gold?"


P.S. I assume I need to isolate either "F" or "G", but I kind of forget how (that, or subsitute and solve for "F" then use "F" to find "G." But... Aside from switching things around on either side of the damn equal sign, not much progress was made. ~Voco
